MODEL UNITED NATION

Debating! Learning! Empowering!

Strongly adhering to the above-mentioned key-words, The Eco club of Asian Law College successfully organized Model United Nation-2023 on 30 March, Thursday. The students from all the batches of BALLB and LLB participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Model United Nations is a simulation that replicates the steps the UN takes to solve problems in the real world. It is an academic recreation of the UN’s processes. Negotiation, discourse, and passionate discussions are the mainstays of action in the MUN simulation. The participants learned about current affairs, world affairs, diplomacy, and the goals of the UN. In addition to gaining knowledge of the world in which we live, they also learned presentation, persuasive, scenario analysis, research, and critical thinking abilities. The MUN-2023 was organized in three committees having three different agendas. The first committee was United Nations Environment Programme and its agenda was the ‘Russia-Ukraine war and its implications on food, energy and environment’. The second committee was Economic and Social Council and its agenda was ‘Post-Pandemic Economic Recovery Models’ and the third committee was United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its agenda was ‘No Poverty and Zero hunger’. The participants represented as the delegates of different countries and raised the issues related to their respective agendas. The platform was opened for discussion, debates, questioning and counter-questioning during the moderated caucus, where the students asserted their issues with great passion and zeal. This was followed by an unmoderated session where the delegates informally conversed with each other, aligned with others having similar ideas, lobbied fellow delegates and worked towards formulating the Draft Resolution. Towards the end, the Draft Resolutions proposed in each committee were voted and passed. The Executive Board also shared their observations and suggestions with the participants.

The event was concluded by the Valedictory Ceremony, where the winners and participants were awarded and appreciated for their efforts and hard-work. The event was successful as the students learned the art of negotiation, persuasion and diplomacy by enhancing their communication and debating skills.
