LEGAL LECTURE SERIES:  IN-HOUSE COUNSEL AS A CAREER BY MR. VENKATESWARAN TS

The Asian Law College, Noida organized the Legal Lecture Series, Season 8 on 12th March, 2024 for the students of B.A. LL.B. and LL.B. The purpose of this session was to ensure addition of knowledge to students in the domain of making a legal career as an in-house counsel. The session commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Ashish Bhardawaj, Assistant Dean of ALC, extending gratitude to the esteemed speaker, Mr. Venkateswaran TS, Director Legal and General Counsel at Nestle. The session was also graced with the presence of Mr. Ravee Sharma, Dean, Corporate Resource Cell and Mr. Amit Nagar and Ms. Divyasha Dubey, Program Chairs, ALC and faculty members.

In the session, Mr. Venkateswaran’s address provided invaluable insights into the realm of legal advocacy, offering practical guidance to students aspiring to pursue a career as in-house counsel. During the session, Mr. Venkateswaran shared a compelling case study involving the Maggi noodle crisis of 2015, illustrating the pivotal role played by in-house legal counsel in navigating such challenging situations. His elucidation of how the in-house legal team acted as a liaison between the company and external counsel, facilitating the relaunch of Maggi within a remarkably short timeframe of five months, offered a fascinating glimpse into the dynamic nature of corporate legal practice. In the interactive segment that followed, students seized the opportunity to engage with Mr. Venkateswaran, seeking further enlightenment on the prospects and challenges associated with a career as an in-house counsel. Specifically, they delved into inquiries about the initial hurdles one might encounter in this career path.

This session not only broadened students’ understanding of the role and responsibilities of in-house counsels but also inspired them to navigate the legal profession with confidence and resilience, armed with the knowledge shared during this enriching discourse. The event concluded on a high note, leaving students motivated and better equipped to embark on their journey toward a rewarding career in corporate legal practice.
