Samvidhan Katta: Celebrating our Constitution

Pro Bono Club of Asian Law College organized “Samvidhan Katta” a unique event on 12th September 2024 for the students of LL.B. 2024 Batch. It is a revolutionary step taken by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice Government of India to celebrate the foundation of our great nation, The Indian Constitution. It is a unique platform where individuals from all walks of life – students, scholars, legal professionals, and common citizens – come together to engage in meaningful conversations about the Constitution. This event was designed to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Indian Constitution, and to engage the students in meaningful discussions about the Constitution. The primary objective was to simplify the Constitution, making it easier for students to understand, while emphasizing its importance in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of every citizen.

The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Manvi Singh, Assistant Professor of Law and the Faculty Coordinator of the Pro Bono Club. She highlighted the significance of the “Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman” campaign and emphasized on the revolutionary nature of the “Samvidhan Katta” an initiative by the Department of Justice. Mr. Amit Nagar and Ms. Divyasha Dubey, Program Chairs for LL.B. and BA.LL.B. programs emphasized upon the importance of the gathering for reigniting passion for the constitutional values. Dr. Smriti Raturi Sharma, Assistant Professor of Law shared her insights on the Constitution of India. Her perspectives deepened the understanding of the Constitution and encouraged critical thinking about its significance. The students then took center stage, sharing their views, narratives, and knowledge on various topics of the Indian Constitution, including the Preamble, Right to Equality, Writs, Educational Rights, and Special Provisions. A substantial number of students participated with great zeal in discussing the principles upholding the values of the Indian Constitution.

The “Samvidhan Katta” successfully achieved its goal of encouraging dialogue and discussion about the Constitution. It fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Constitution among the students. The objective of encouraging students to share narratives and dialogues upholding constitutional values was fulfilled. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Riya Tanwar, Assistant Professor of Law and Faculty Coordinator of the Pro Bono Club.
