In order to benefit the students who commenced a new phase in their academic life, Asian Law College – which is a part of Asian Education Group and is ranked as one of the best Law Colleges in Delhi NCR – launched a grand week-long Orientation Programme scheduled from Monday, 26th October 2020 to Saturday, 31st October 2020 for its B.A.LL.B. & LL.B. students But, in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and keeping in mind the social distancing norms, this programme was organized virtually.

Day 3 of the ALC B.A.LL.B. & LL.B. Orientation Programme 2020 – i.e., Wednesday, 28th October 2020 – was dedicated to deeply engrossing introductory session on Asian Law College’s LEGAL AID SOCIETY that aims to render services to the poor and weaker section of the society and act as an inexpensive machinery for handling services of basic nature like legal advice, counselling and other documents of legal importance. It also seeks to discourage the court litigation amongst the people by conducting effective pre-litigation counselling sessions like mediation, negotiation etc.

The day also marked the grand finale of “YOUNG ASIAN LEGAL PIONEERS COMPETITION 2020” – essentially a well-meaning competition that allowed the students to share their acumen to create a workable plan for the betterment of society – wherein Ms. APARAJITA AMAR, Founder, Sexual Harassment Legal Compliance Advisory (SHLC) was the ‘Guest of Honour’ who not only presented a detailed account of the laws pertaining to the need for creating safe work places and shared some priceless insights into the subject by way of a LLS Lecture on the topic “WOMEN RIGHTS & GENDER EQUALITY”, but also declared the winner for YALPC 2020.

She talked at length about the various laws that have been enacted in India in this regard and how it fares in context to the ground realities. She also spoke in detail about the activities undertaken by her own organization – SHLC-Sexual Harassment Law Compliance Advisory – in this regard and the various challenges that still need to be countered.

Following an interesting Q&A session, the day’s session entered into the last leg with a review of the workable plan submissions made by students as part of the “YOUNG ASIAN LEGAL PIONEERS COMPETITION 2020” grand finale proceedings. Out of 160 presentations, 5 were shortlisted for consideration of the winner of the YALPC 2020 Competition. The criteria for selection was a review of “Agenda, Action, Outcome & Legal Interface Plan.”

Ms. Aparajita Amar confessed that she was highly moved by the “very important social topics” brought up at this competition and said that “all 5 shortlisted submissions reflected some most important aspects of social living that needed to be corrected.” Stating that it was difficult to choose one among them as best, she declared Mr. Dominic Joseph’s action plan on child protection in India, “BACHPAN BACHAO ANDOLAN”, as the winner for this year’s “YOUNG ASIAN LEGAL PIONEERS COMPETITION”.

With this, this most valuable session with the young, dynamic legal luminary – Ms. Aparajita Amar, Founder, Sexual Harassment Legal Compliance Advisory (SHLC) – came to a fitting end!
