The Legal Aid Center of Asian Law College, Noida, part of the Asian Education Group (AEG), organized a visit to the POCSO Court, Gautam Buddha Nagar from 25.04.2023 to 28.04.2023. The Court deals with cases related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of children with the aim of providing practical experience and insight to law students into the legal system’s response to such heinous crimes.
During the visit, the students observed the proceedings and hearings related to POCSO cases in the court of Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, A.D.J. (POCSO) Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh where they observed how the court operates and how lawyers, judges, and other court staff interact with each other and the parties involved in the case. They also interacted with Special Public Prosecutor Neetu Bishnoi, who briefed the students on guidelines to be followed to ensure that the victim should not feel traumatized during the proceedings. They were also briefed on how Special Public Prosecutors or Public Prosecutors act with sensitivity to respect and protect the rights, interests, and privacy of the child, survivors and witnesses. The students also got the opportunity to visit Legal Aid Defence Council System. Legal Aid Defense Counsel System involves the full-time engagement of lawyers with the support system. Advocate Manoj Tewatia who is heading Legal Aid Defence Council System in Gautam Buddha Nagar also interacted with our students and shared the vision and goal of the Legal Aid Defence Council System.
The objective behind Legal Aid Defense Council System is to provide qualitative and competent legal services in criminal matters to all eligible persons and to manage and implement legal aid system in a professional manner in criminal matters. Visiting a POCSO court provided the students of Asian Law College with a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and learn about the legal system’s response to serious crimes against children.
