Game of Carrom elicits some top performances from students at AEG’s 8th Annual Inter-College Sports Festival, ATHLEEMA 2020!

In many ways, sports are an indispensable part of study. School or college life without sports would perhaps be dull and dreary. Thus, in continuation with its tradition, Asian Law College (ALC) – which is a part of Asian Education Group (AEG) and is ranked as one of the top law colleges in Noida offering 5-year BA-LLB & 3-year LLB courses – held its 8th annual sports meet, ATHLEEMA 2020 from 21st-23rd January 2020 at the imposing Jasola Sports Complex, New Delhi with great enthusiasm and glory, much accentuated by the glorious presence of the Indian football legend, Mr. Baichung Bhutia as the chief guest for the occasion.

A total of 50 top colleges of Delhi NCR participated in this mega inter-college sports meet including the two other constituent group colleges of Asian Education Group, namely Asian Business School (ABS) & Asian School of Business (ASB).

A number of sports were organized like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tug-O-War, Kho-Kho, Chess, etc. One such sports event in Athleema 2020 was Carrom – which is one of the world’s favourite indoor board games. It is a game that requires skill, practice and determination.

There were a number of participants in this game from various schools and colleges like Asian School of Media Studies, Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Professional Studies (BCIPS), AAFT, Asian Business School, Asian Law College, Asian School of Business, etc.

The matches were played in singles as well as in teams of doubles. The matches up to the quarterfinal level were knockout matches. Being a knockout competition, losing a game saw the losing team go out of the competition. However, it was noticed that all the participants took careful moves while playing. A platform was provided to participants and they utilized it to their fullest. First day ended with the semi-final round. The next day game started with the final round.

After a hard-fought competition, the first and second positions in Carrom Boys (Singles) were bagged by Gopikishan of ALC and Daksh Bhargava of BCIPS respectively. In the Carrom Girls (Singles), Sanchi Rathore of ASB and Shivani Tripathi of ALC won the first and second positions respectively.

Vinay & Daksh of BCIPS bagged the first position in Carrom Boys (Doubles), Ajeet Kr. & Pratyush Rajan of ALC bagged the second position. In the Carrom Girls (Doubles), Toshika Bhatnagar & Sanjana Madan of ASB and Shyambhavi & Stuti also of ASB bagged the first and second positions respectively.

Thus, apart from teaching us good values such as sportsmanship, proper spirit of competition, team-spirit, co-operation, discipline in the field etc., sports meet like ATHLEEMA 2020 makes college life lively, interesting, enjoyable and memorable!
