Moot Court Society of Asian Law College (ALC), Noida organizes a highly successful National Client Counseling Competition

Noida, 1st March 2021: The Moot Court Society of Asian Law College (ALC) – which is a part of Asian Education Group and is ranked as one of the top law colleges in Noida – successfully organized a very well-received National  Client Counselling Competition on Saturday, 27th February 2021 at its campus located in Sector 125, Noida.

The inaugural session of the event took place at 10 am with all the participants, guest, faculty and staff of ALC connected virtually. The inaugural session began with the welcome address delivered by Mr. Amit Naga, Assistant Professor, ALC and the inaugural address of the session was given by Mr. Ashish Bhardawaj, Head – ALC. The chief guest of the inaugural session was Mr. Amber Gupta (Head Legal & Company Secretary, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance) accompanied by guest of honor, Ms. Shruti Priya (Senior Legal Counsel, Truecaller).  The distinguished guests acknowledged the effort of ALC in this pandemic situation for hosting such clinical based competition for the benefit of students. They shared their valuable experiences on client counseling and brought forth the nuances of the process along with guiding the students to explore the dimensions of this concept.  The students were then designated to their respective virtual chambers for the  sessions.

The competition was very well received by the law colleges and universities  from all across India and attracted participation from Thakur Ramnarayan College of Law, Mumbai; University of Mumbai Law Academy; School of Law Christ (deemed to be University), Bangalore;  National Law University, Bhopal; UPES Dehradun, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi; Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur; Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla; Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow; Government Law College, Mumbai;  and University Institute of Legal Studies, Chandigarh. The Legal luminaries who judged  each round of competition were the practicing Advocates and Advocate on Record (AOR) who guided, motivated and evaluated the participants of the competition.

The client counselling competition simulated a law office consultation wherein law students acted as attorneys and handled client matters. The participants conducted an initial interview with a person playing the role of the client. They then addressed the client’s legal as well as non-legal needs. Participants were supposed to explain the various aspects of the attorney-client relationship, determining client goals, and considered applicable law and options that may be available to the client. After various rounds of National Client Counselling Competition, the participants from NLU Bhopal were declared winners of the competition and the participants from UPES, Dehradun  were adjudged  at the runners-up position. The Best Counsel position was won by  well deserving  participant from HNLU, Raipur.

The valedictory session witnessed the presence of an international legal personality, Mr. Brendan Weldrick (Founder, Brenden Weldrick Attorney, South Africa) who graced the occasion virtually with his presence and gave his valuable inputs to the participants on the pertinent area of client counselling. The eminent speaker highlighted the role and importance of client counselling in practical life citing several examples from his career. The customary vote of thanks marked the end of the valedictory session, which was proposed by Mr. Ashish Bhardawaj, Head – ALC.
