Guest Lecture: White Collar Crimes

Asian Law College, Noida under its Legal Lecture Series (LLS) hosted Mr. Ishan Khanna, Principal Associate at Khaitan & Co. for a guest lecture on “White Collar Crimes” for the students of B.A. LL.B. and LL.B 2023 Batch on 2nd November 2023.  The session aimed to shed light on the intricacies of white-collar offenses, their impact on society, and the preventive measures that individuals and organizations can take.

The session started with a comprehensive overview of white-collar crimes, delving into their definition, characteristics, and common examples. The session set the stage for a deeper understanding of the subject by including an in-depth analysis of prominent white-collar crime cases, illustrating the various forms these offenses can take. The esteemed guest speaker discussed the legal framework surrounding white-collar crimes, exploring relevant statutes and regulations. On the contrary, ethical considerations and corporate responsibility were also highlighted, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to compliance.  Practical strategies and best practices for preventing white-collar crimes were shared emphasizing that organizations must go beyond mere adherence to legal norms and actively cultivate an ethical corporate culture. The students learned about effective risk management and internal controls that organizations can implement to safeguard against fraudulent activities within organizations. The insights provided not only equipped the students with theoretical knowledge but also empowered them with practical tools to contribute to the prevention and detection of white-collar crimes in their future professional endeavors.

Following the lecture, an engaging Question and answer session unfolded, enabling students to directly interact with the speaker. This interactive segment fostered a lively exchange of ideas, providing students with the chance to seek advice on career trajectories, pursue additional studies, and explore practical aspects of white-collar crime in practice. The guest lecture on white-collar crimes elicited a keen and participative response from the students, markedly enhancing their comprehension of this specialized legal domain. The session proved to be a valuable opportunity for students to delve deeper into the intricacies of white-collar crimes, fostering enthusiasm and active engagement among the students.
