GUEST LECTURE : HOW TO ARGUE IN COURT BY MS. NISHA DHAKA

The moot court committee of Asian Law College, Noida organized the Guest Lecture, on 15th October 2024 for the students of LL.B. 2024 Batch on the topic of ‘How to argue in Court’, featuring Ms. Nisha Dhaka. Ms. Dhaka has experience in various matters of fraud, banking, insurance, ADR, Special leave petitions, transfer petitions, and civil and constitutional matters. Ms. Dhaka is associated with and known for her pro bono work in environmental law. The session was organized to give insights to students on courtroom decorum, the importance of preparation, and the art of persuasive argumentation.

The session commenced with a warm welcome from Ms. Ishani Vaidya, Assistant Professor of ALC, and a felicitation by Ms. Divyasha Dubey, Program Chair, B.A. LLB, extending gratitude to the esteemed speaker, Ms. Nisha Dhaka. The lecture was structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the structuring arguments, addressing the bench respectfully, and maintaining composure under pressure. Ms. Dhaka stressed the importance of clarity in speech, body language, and anticipating questions from the opposition and the judge. She encouraged students in critical thinking, drawing on her own examples from courtroom experiences to highlight common challenges and how to overcome them. She also emphasized the significance of mastering facts, understanding legal precedents, and presenting them confidently before a judge. Through these discussions, the students gained valuable insights into the nuances of court proceedings, arguments, and maintaining a list of dates for cases.

The session concluded with an expression of gratitude by Ms. Ishani Vaidya to Ms. Nisha Dhaka for sharing her expertise and insights, acknowledging the invaluable contribution to the students’ understanding of the courtroom necessities in India. Overall, the session was highly beneficial for students, equipping them with foundational skills and boosting their confidence for future moot court competitions and real-life courtroom experiences.
