PARALEGAL VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP ORGANIZED BY DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY, GAUTAM BUDDH NAGAR

The Paralegal Volunteer 10-Day Internship was organized by the Legal Aid Centre of the Asian Law College in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Gautam Buddh Nagar from September 25th to October 7th 2023 to gain insights into court proceedings and appreciate the significance of the legal profession. DLSA provides free legal services for handling cases before courts and tribunals, as well as competent and free legal help in the form of counseling and legal advice. Such initiatives play a crucial role in providing students with practical exposure to the legal field. Paralegal volunteer internship serves important purposes for both the individuals and the community. It enhances the practical legal skills, provides exposure to the legal environment, builds networks, and explores specialization and professional development.

During the internship, the students were under the guidance of the Ld. Additional District Judge, Sri Ran Vijay Pratap Singh who introduced the Paralegal Volunteers (PLVs) with various matters adjudicated by the court. The specific task of digitizing case records in Excel sheets with proper formatting, including details such as case number, case name, judgment dates, party names, and other relevant information, is an excellent way for students to engage with real-life legal documents. This practical experience contributes to their understanding of the intricacies of legal proceedings.

Furthermore, exposing the students to the practical challenges faced by the current legal system at the lower level is a valuable aspect of the internship. This hands-on experience not only helped them develop technical skills in digitalization but also fosters a deeper comprehension of the day-to-day operations of the legal system. Motivating students to work hard and encouraging them to understand the practical aspects of court proceedings will undoubtedly contribute to their overall growth and development as aspiring legal professionals. Such internships are essential in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and the practical skills required in the legal field.
