“A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life.”
– Henry Ward Beecher

National Library Week 2023, organized by the Library Department of Asian Law College from November 14th to November 20th, 2023, with daily activities. The event promised an enriching experience for participants, offering a week-long celebration of literature, knowledge, and the significance of libraries in our communities. The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Ashish Bhardwaj, Assistant Dean of Asian Law College, who set the tone for a week filled with insightful discussions, engaging workshops, and a shared passion for the written word. It was an exciting opportunity for students, faculty, and library enthusiasts to come together, explore the vast world of literature, and appreciate the invaluable role that libraries play in shaping intellectual landscapes. The primary objectives of National Library Week 2023 were multi-faceted and aimed to instill a profound appreciation for the role of libraries in our lives. Firstly, the event seeks to underscore the importance of libraries and the role it plays as a reservoir of knowledge. Furthermore, to encourage reading habits and spread awareness about the rich array of reference resources, digital resources and services.

The week started with the Talk Show “My experiment with books” in which all faculty members shared their exquisite experiments and memories with the books which became turning points of their lives and motivated them throughout their lives. From November 16th to 20th, 2023, an exclusive Book Exhibition took place, highlighting various categories in libraries. The event was enhanced by the library tour, where student coordinators and library staff guided attendees through the showcased books. A notable component was the “My Experiment with Books” writing competition for students. Participants were given a task to submit a brief 100-150 word write-up expressing their unique connection with books. Lavisha Arora from the LL.B 2022 Batch emerged as the winner, receiving recognition for her exceptional write-up.
This event served as a platform for students to share their passion for literature, fostering a deeper appreciation for books. The initiative aimed to promote a culture of reading and literary engagement within the academic community. Library Week 2023 was a resounding success, with tangible outcomes such as increased awareness of the library’s resources, enhanced reading habits among students, and a strengthened sense of academic community.
