ALC Distinguished Lecture Series – Guest Lecture on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

The Asian Law College (ALC) organized a Guest Lecture on “Foreign Direct Investment” for its B.A.LL.B. students on 26th February, 2019. The lecture was delivered by Prof (Dr). Ashok Mittal who has 43 Years’ of teaching experience. He is s currently serving as Professor in Economics in the Department of Economics, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

During the session the speaker talked about one of the remarkable features of the contemporary world, i.e., the proliferation of private capital flow in the form of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in developing countries, especially since 1990s. Further, in his lecture he dealt with the factors which affect FDI, advantages and disadvantages of FDI. He further discussed that consistent economic growth, de-regulation, liberal investment rules, and operational flexibility are all the factors that help increase the inflow of Foreign direct investment or FDI. FDIs require a business relationship between a parent company and its foreign subsidiary. He also discussed about the different types of Foreign Direct Investment and the various routes through which FDI can be brought into India. He further discussed the factors which attract FDI in India. At the end he stated that FDI is being looked upon as a way to internationalize and have global presence for many industries and companies. It also provides an excellent tool to the Government to check the local production and also trade to be carried on freely without any barriers. The session at the closure invited views form the students wherein they had relevant doubts on FDI. All such doubts where patiently taken up by the speaker of the event.

Thus, the lecture covered various critical aspect of Foreign direct investment and the same were deliberated at length by the Speaker. The young brains at Asian Law College placed some quality questions to the speaker which were well addressed by the speaker.  The session helped the students to have clarity on Foreign Direct Investment and its role in economic development. The importance and inter-linkage of economics as subject and its relationship to law was also well brought forth in discussion and session concluded with expression of gratitude towards the speaker by Asian Law College.
