Guest Lecture on the Mediation Act, 2023

Asian Law College successfully organized a Guest Lecture on the Mediation Act, 2023 on Wednesday, 25th March 2026. The event was organized under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), reflecting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and quality enhancement.

The session was graced by Mr. Jonathan Rodrigues, Mediator and Founding Partner at The PACT, who shared his expertise and practical insights into the evolving landscape of mediation in India. The event was attended by Mr. Shivam Jaiswal, Head-Academics, Mr. Naman Shukla, Head of Department, Ms. Twinkle Hussain, Convenor – Academics, faculty members, and students of LL.B. Batch 2024 and B.A. LL.B. Batch 2022 as part of their practical training subject “Arbitration, Conciliation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.”

The lecture aimed to create awareness about the Mediation Act, 2023 and highlighted mediation as a vital alternative dispute resolution mechanism. Mr. Rodrigues elaborated on the key provisions of the Act and emphasized its role in ensuring faster, cost-effective, and amicable settlement of disputes. Drawing from his international experience, he provided comparative perspectives on mediation practices and introduced the concept of the Multi-Door Dispute Resolution System.

The session was highly interactive, encouraging students to adopt a problem-solving and collaborative approach rather than a purely adversarial mindset. It also shed light on the growing importance of mediation in reducing judicial backlog and strengthening access to justice.

The lecture significantly enhanced students’ understanding of modern dispute resolution mechanisms and inspired them to explore mediation as a promising career path. It also helped them develop essential legal skills such as negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution.

Overall, the event proved to be informative and impactful, bridging the gap between theory and practice while reinforcing the importance of mediation in building a more efficient and harmonious legal system.
