Asian Law College Moot Court Society aims to provide a valuable opportunity for students to develop advocacy skills. Mooting is a skill enhancement practice done by law students to solve a fictitious dispute. Moot word has originated initially for a gathering of renounced men in a locality to deliberate about some serious matters. Mooting is an art to research, analyze and practically implicate the law on the unsettled and undetermined disputed point. Mooting is the heart of the legal profession. Asian Law College organized Intra Moot Court competition to hone the legal skills of the students on 3rd November 2018. This competition was open for all the students of B.A.LL.B. and LL.B. The problem for the Preliminary round was framed focusing specifically on abetment of suicide. For the preliminary round, seventeen teams had registered and participated, out of which six were selected.
The final round of the Intra Moot Court Competition held on 3rd November 2018, in which six teams of B.A.LL.B. and LL.B. students had participated. The moot problem for the finals was based on criminal law. This round was judged by two eminent high court advocates, Mr. Awnish Kumar, and Ms. Vasundra Bhardwaj.Mr. Awnish Kumar is a law graduate from Indian Law Society, Pune, having more than Six years of experience in the area of corporate as well as criminal laws. Currently, he is working as a Managing Partner of “Awnish Kumar & Associates”. Vasudera Bhardwaj has extensive experience of more than five years practicing in litigation on the original, appellate and writ jurisdiction of all courts/ tribunals in India as well as on several arbitration matters.
All the teams showed a lot of research and enthusiasm in their work. This event was a successful one as it enhanced the sense of mooting in all the participants and other students. At the end of the competition, the eminent judges had deliberated the valuable implications of moot court for the legal students and motivated them to develop a habit of research. Ms. Vasundra Bhardwaj congratulated all the participants as they got such a big opportunity to have close experiences of practical advocacy through mooting.
