Asian Law College inaugurated its new batch of 5-year B.A.LL.B. & 3-year LL.B. on Thursday, 7th October 2021. The orientation week which was scheduled from Thursday, 7th October 2021 to Saturday, 9th October 2021 gave the new students of B.A.LL.B. and LL.B. a broad perspective of legal field and career opportunities in legal profession . This programme was essentially organized to benefit the students who were about to begin a new phase in their academic life.
At the ALC Orientation 2021 Day 3 ceremony that was held on Saturday, 9th October 2021 at its campus located in Sector 125, Noida, Mr. VINEET VIJ – Group General Counsel, Tech Mahindra Group – was an eminent guest who offered a very pertinent talk on the theme of ‘CAMPUS TO CORPORATE’ under the Asian Law College’s distinctive Legal Lecture Series (LLS) 2021 initiative.
Mr. Vineet Vij has a rich professional experience of 25 years in Legal, Secretarial, Regulatory, Risk & Compliance and Corporate & Public Affairs in leading Information Technology, IT-Enabled Services, Engineering, Banking & Non-banking Financial companies. He served as Senior Vice President – Legal, Commercial, Regulatory, Compliance & Public Affairs at HCL Technologies Ltd. for over 11 years. Having a vast experience in Legal, Regulatory & Secretarial roles, Mr. Vineet worked with TATA Group – TATA Unisys/Infotech Ltd. and TATA Consultancy Services Ltd. for 10 years, besides handling Legal, Secretarial & Compliance functions in Punj Lloyd Ltd. and American Express India. He has also been a litigator & practicing advocate before Hon’ble High Courts of Delhi & Mumbai and district courts & tribunals across the country and has been a witness to some landmark judgments passed by courts in India and across the globe. His expertise spans across a variety of practice areas including Commercial & Contract Laws, IT, Data Protection, Privacy, Cyber, IPR Laws, M&A, Telecom, Litigation & Arbitration, International Laws, Global Compliances, Employment Laws, FCPA, UKBA, Real Estate, Indirect Taxation, and SEZ/STPI/EOU regulations.
Offering his Eminent Guest address on Day 3 of the ALC Orientation Programme 2021, Mr. Vineet Vij at first thanked the ALC Team for inviting him for the exciting event and said, “It is a wonderful experience to be here!” He then congratulated the students for making this “Best Choice” and said, “Law is one of the best professions in the world!”
Getting on to the theme of the session – viz., ‘CAMPUS TO CORPORATE’ – the distinguished law professional Mr. Vineet Vij said, “Passion is very important for success in any field. And, Law is all about passion. Have some clarity, be very clear and decide what you want to do … and get going with all sincerity and focus!” While on this, Mr. Vij recounted his own story of how he started with enrolling for a B.Com course, then CA, and finally, LL.B. He said, “Initially, I joined LL.B just for the sake of it, but In-House was not an option then. Practicing in court was the norm … and I got In House as an opportunity only later on.“
Sharing his valuable insights on “What it takes to be successful as In House Counsel”, the seasoned professional Mr. Vineet Vij said, “Multi-jurisdiction expertise, exposure to laws of other countries, knowledge of all aspects of law, ease of being a part of the core management team of the company are some of the key things that will make you successful as In House Counsel.” He also added, “Technology is changing … be passionate about it. Moreover, you need to be honest and not miss out on any of the learning opportunities that will come your way as In House Counsel. And, always remember, as In House Counsel, you are not just lawyers, but also a business professional. There is just no limit to learning, so make the best out of your next five years at this college!”
