Asian Law College inaugurated its new batch of 5-year B.A.LL.B. & 3-year LL.B. on Thursday, 7th October 2021. The inauguration kick-started a grand three-day Orientation Programme scheduled from Thursday, 7th October 2021 to Saturday, 9th  October 2021. This programme was essentially organized to benefit the students who were about to begin a new phase in their academic life.

At the ALC Orientation 2021 Day 2 ceremony that was held on Friday, 8th October 2021 at its campus located in Sector 125, Noida, renowned Indian Lawyer & Women’s Rights Activist, Ms. Pramila Nesargi was an eminent guest who delivered a truly inspiring session under the Legal Lecture Series (LLS) 2021 at this august gathering.

Ms. Pramila Nesargi is an Indian educationist and lawyer, a well-known women’s rights activist and Director of several companies. Ms. Pramila Nesargi is known as a maverick lawyer with many distinctions to her credit. She obtained a law degree at an early age and started practicing law. She is the first graduate in the family. She has been a member of the dictionary committee for English-Kannada translation. She is the first woman to be elected in the past 50 years to the Karnataka Bar Council as Chairman of Bar Association.

Delivering her eminent guest address on Day 2 of the ALC Orientation 2021 on Friday, 8th October 2021 at the Asian Law College campus, Ms. Pramila Nesargi began by stating that she was “proud to be among students” and “wished that she was a student!”

Getting down to her LLS talk on the theme of ‘Building Your Professional Legal Career’, Ms. Pramila Nesargi said, “As a professor of law, I certainly have a few things to teach you as students, but I think how you apply law in your daily life is far more important.” Talking at length about the women’s not-so-happy conditions in Indian society, she exhorted the students to become exemplars in applying law in their daily life by asking them to make specific pledges like, “I will not ask for dowry in marriage” and “I will share and make marriage a true partnership.” Condemning domestic violence, she said, “Violence could be physical, verbal, economic or social … anything which hurts is violence.” Here, she quoted a number of real-life examples of discrimination, subordination and outright violation of women’s dignity to substantiate her observations.

Making a powerful case for women, Ms. Pramila Nesargi said, “Women are not being taken care of properly. Economic domains like textile industry, cooking or hotel industry and education, which have traditionally been the women’s area of expertise, have been taken over by men.  These must be earmarked for women.” She further stated, “Fear haunts women; equality has become a question mark. The whole world should be made one. All women must be protected. You owe your duty to society and your country. Take part in protecting society. Remember, earning is not the only criteria.”

Talking about the profession of law, the distinguished legal luminary Ms. Pramila Nesargi said, “Becoming a lawyer is the noblest profession. There is nothing that you cannot touch in your profession. Everything is within your domain. You must be alert all the time. The world has given everything to us, but there is no limit to greed. Issues like trees being cut indiscriminately affect us all. You must protest. Think of the common man. Always remind yourself, I’m born to protect all citizens of the world. And, be careful. Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara: Speak the truth and always walk on the path of righteousness!”
