Asian Law College inaugurated its new batch of 5-year B.A.LL.B. & 3-year LL.B. on Thursday, 7th October 2021. The inauguration kick-started a grand three-day Orientation Programme scheduled from Thursday, 7th October 2021 to Saturday, 9th  October 2021. This programme was essentially organized to benefit the students who were about to begin a new phase in their academic life.

At the ALC Orientation 2021 Day 2 ceremony that was held on Friday, 8th October 2021 at its campus located in Sector 125, Noida, Mr.  Bhumesh Verma – International Corporate Lawyer, Managing Partner-Corp. Comm Legal – delivered a wonderful talk under the Legal Lecture Series (LLS) 2021 at this august gathering.

Mr. Bhumesh Verma is an International Corporate Lawyer, businessman, blog-editor, legal author and philanthropist. He is the Managing Partner of Corp Comm Legal, an independent Indian law firm headquartered in New Delhi. Mr. Bhumesh completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Delhi University in 1994. He was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship program for Young Indian Corporate & Commercial Lawyers in 2000 from College of Law, York, UK. Mr. Bhumesh has more than 350 published articles to his credit including those on LinkedIn, IBLJ, Business World, SCCOnline and many more legal and business websites. His awards and recognitions include, ‘A-List of Top 100 Indian Lawyers by India Business Law Journal for 2016, 2017’, ‘Top 10 Admired Lawyers in India by Insights Success’, ‘Top 100 Lawyers to Follow by LinkedIn’, etc.

Delivering his LLS talk on Day 2 of the ALC Orientation Programme 2021, Mr. Bhumesh Verma charged the ambience of the moment by asking a spirited question, “How’s the JOSH?” Getting an equally spirited reply from the students, Mr. Bhumesh Verma shot back, “Applaud yourself for choosing a career in law which is not only a noble profession, but also the most wonderful profession! There is no other profession in the world where you are a learner all your life!! Can there be any other profession in the world that can compare with law?” Capturing the attention of the students, the distinguished speaker Mr. Bhumesh Verma continued, “Here at this top law college called Asian Law College, you are the superstars of today. Life in each stage offers new challenges; how you turn them around, no one else will do … Only your efforts will help. So what you do in these 5 years here, will determine your future!”

Mr. Bhumesh Verma then importantly shared with the students some priceless ‘DO’s & DON’T’s’ during their days of learning ahead. These included:

Ø  Cultivate a habit of READING about everything and not only the law course books, because today the law profession has evolved into myriad specializations and new areas of application like environment, politics, international relations, arbitration, tourism and so on.

Ø  Reading will naturally improve your WRITING, which is a key tool for lawyers. “Lawyers work on Words; they are a lawyer’s Capital & Tool,” he said.

Ø  Do not run after CERTIFICATES, they are no good. Be judicious; participate in internship opportunities, run after KNOWLEDGE. Attend only for knowledge. Focus has to be on learning.

Ø  NETWORK with good people in all professions and develop a Give & Take relationship. Grow your knowledge by sharing; don’t be a cheat.  Remember, knowledge is the only thing that increases when you share it with more and more people.

Ø  Do a VISIT to LAW FIRMS and LAW COURTS. What you read in your classroom is not how exactly it actually works in reality. To get a proper insight here is very important for you.

Ø  Cultivate the habit of sitting in the FRONT. Leaders sit in the front. Be visible, if you aspire to be a leader. So, you should sit in the front of your classrooms, to begin with.

Ø  Work 20-30% FASTER than you do. Try walking a little faster. Don’t be lethargic.

Ø  Speak in ‘ACTIVE VOICE’. Always write in Active Voice … that will activate you further.

Ø  Always Volunteer. Do not participate in activities just for the sake of it, but capitalize on the critics and their comments. Never shy away from speaking, because in courts of law you will have to do just that.

Ø  There is COMPETITION, no doubt. Yes you have to compete. However, you need not necessarily compete with others but yourself. Keep a benchmark. Once you start, you will make a sea of difference in yourself. See yourself improving … that will give a boost to your learning.

Ø  ‘DARE TO DREAM & DARE TO FAIL’. Think as an entrepreneur. Think bigger, broaden your vision. Chart your own career path, create a road. Today is the best time; tomorrow the day may have gone. Dare to Try!

Ø  Lawyers tend to go overboard and at times they suffer from ‘Verbal Diarrhea’. You have to cultivate the habit of ‘Smart Working’ by making your speaking and writing ‘EFFECTIVE’. Avoid jargon; concentrate on effective writing and speaking.

Ø  Have PATIENCE. Remember, “Form is temporary, class is permanent’. Do not fall for temporary temptations.

Ø  Finally, GET A LIFE! Don’t be boring. Be good, do good. Become good human beings. Be helpful.

And, Mr. Bhumesh Verma concluded his wonderful talk with the words, “Hope to see you again!”
