MAY IT PLEASE THE COURT: A LEGAL ETIQUETTE WORKSHOP

Moot Court Committee of Asian Law College organized a legal etiquette workshop on 10th October 2024 titled “May It Please the Court” for B.A. LL.B. Batch 2024. The workshop was organized to instill professionalism and courtroom decorum among the students. The main aim of the workshop was to enhance the understanding of legal conduct, walk students through every critical aspect of courtroom presence, ensuring they grasped the essentials of courtroom conduct. The workshop acted as a bridge between the theoretical and practical application of the Law ensuring that students are prepared for the upcoming challenges in the courtroom.

The workshop commenced simultaneously in different classrooms and the auditorium. Assistant Professors of Asian Law College Ms. Rupali Gupta and Ms. Harsha Sharma, with substantial, hands-on experience took charge of conducting the sessions for the students with some selected students as representatives having distinguished experience and accolades in moot court competitions. The faculty and the student representatives actively engaged the students in the workshop. The workshop emphasized the significance of maintaining proper courtroom etiquette, including adherence to proper courtroom dress codes, respectful address toward judges, and appropriate conduct. Through real-life examples, participants were shown the serious implications of disregarding these essential rules. Instances where legal professionals faced consequences for breaching professional ethics and courtroom protocols were highlighted, reinforcing the critical importance of upholding professionalism both within the courtroom and across the broader legal landscape.

The workshop concluded with a live demonstration, showcasing how to address and behave during the courtroom proceedings, ensuring the students left with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of ethical conduct in legal practice. The workshop undoubtedly equipped the students with necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the legal profession with integrity and professionalism and a strong foundation for their legal journey.
