The Moot Court Committee (MCC) at Asian Law College (ALC) successfully organised the "Novice Moot Court Competition 2025" on 11th and 12th April 2025. This annual signature internal competition served as a cornerstone in developing students' advocacy skills and preparing them for prestigious external competitions. The competition provided an immersive platform for aspiring legal professionals to hone their jurisprudential expertise through practical experience, cultivating skills in critical analysis of complex legal issues, advanced research methodology, persuasive oral advocacy, comprehensive understanding of procedural law, and professional court etiquette and demeanour.
The competition was open to B.A.LL.B. 2023 and 2024 and LL.B. 2023 and 2024 students at Asian Law College. The Researcher's Test and the Draw of Lots were both conducted on 10th April 2025 from 4–5 PM in the Moot Court Hall.
The moot proposition for the 2025 edition revolved around a deeply compelling set of facts touching upon human rights, criminal justice, and police accountability. The competition comprised two Preliminary Rounds in which each team presented arguments from both sides, followed by Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and a Final Round as knockout rounds. The top 8 teams from the preliminary stage qualified to the Quarter-Finals. Participants were evaluated on knowledge of facts, application of law to facts, ingenuity in answering questions, presentation skills and legal coherence, time management, court etiquette, and quality of rebuttal and surrebuttal, for a total of 100 marks in the oral rounds.
The competition was conducted under the able guidance of Faculty Convener Ms. Twinkle Hussain and Faculty Coordinators Ms. Harsha Sharma, Mr. Ashish Rai, and Dr. Md. Tauheed Khan. The student coordination was led by Kavish Chugh and Utkarsh Agarwal (B.A.LL.B. 2020 and 2021 respectively), Sejal Gupta and Divam Awasthi (LL.B. 2023), and Dayanidhi and Piyush Bhardwaj (B.A.LL.B. 2021).
At the conclusion of the competition, the following awards were presented: Winners Trophy and Certificate, Runners-Up Trophy and Certificate, Best Speaker Award, Best Researcher Award, and Best Memorial Award. All participating students received E-certificates for participation. The Novice Moot Court Competition 2025 was yet another successful edition of this flagship event, reaffirming Asian Law College's commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled legal professionals.
