
Athleema 2020 — 8th Annual Inter-College Sports Meet
Tuesday, 21st January 2020 to Thursday, 23rd January 2020 marked a spectacular and celebrated chapter in the sporting legacy of Asian Law College (ALC), part of the Asian Education Group (AEG), as the institution proudly participated in Athleema 2020, the 8th Annual Inter-College Sports Meet held at the Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola, New Delhi, with great pomp, splendour, and competitive fervour.
The occasion was rendered extraordinary by the glorious presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Baichung Bhutia, the legendary icon of Indian football, whose inspiring presence elevated the meet to a truly memorable sporting occasion. A total of 50 premier colleges of the Delhi NCR region enthusiastically participated in this mega inter-college sporting spectacle, with ALC actively competing alongside its fellow AEG constituent institutions.
The inaugural function on Tuesday, 21st January 2020 commenced with the auspicious torch-lighting ceremony, ignited by the Chief Guest, Mr. Baichung Bhutia, alongside Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President, Asian Education Group, and Directors of AEG — Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Dr. Saurabh Sharma, and Dr. Gurdeep Singh Raina. The distinguished dignitaries then inspired the assembled student athletes with spirited and motivational addresses.
Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Director, AEG, inspired participants with an encouraging welcome speech, while Dr. Saurabh Sharma, Director, AEG, motivated them to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship not merely on the field but in every aspect of their personal lives. Dr. Gurdeep Singh Raina, Director, AEG, further inspired the gathering, urging students to remain true and honest in all their endeavours.
Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President, AEG himself a highly acclaimed international media personality charged the ambience of the occasion with his characteristically inspiring speech, delivered in his inimitable style and enriched with the rendition of motivational couplets. Reflecting on the ever-growing participation of colleges and students in Athleema, Dr. Marwah expressed his vision to make it a truly national event in the years to come.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Baichung Bhutia, shared that it felt especially meaningful to be at Athleema 2020, noting that he had never before attended a college or school sports meet where thousands of students from 50 colleges had gathered to compete. Encouraging the students for their spirited participation, Mr. Bhutia urged them not to abandon sport after completing their schooling, but instead to continue pursuing their interests and skills and to take their games to ever greater heights of achievement.
The competition featured a rich and diverse array of sporting disciplines, including Cricket, Volleyball (Boys/Girls), Football, Table Tennis, Tug-of-War, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Athletics (Shot Put & 100m Race), Kabaddi (Boys/Girls), Kho-Kho (Boys/Girls), and Pool, each contested with remarkable energy and competitive spirit across two exhilarating days of play.
Following two days of intense competition, the grand Valedictory Ceremony for Athleema Season 8 was held on Thursday, 23rd January 2020 at the AEG Campus, Noida, to felicitate students for their exemplary performances and zealous participation. The function was graced by the distinguished presence of Dr. Suniel Parashar, renowned Film Producer and Director, and Mr. Ram Avatar, President, Football Federation of India.
Prizes were conferred by these distinguished guests alongside Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President, AEG; Directors of AEG — Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Dr. Saurabh Sharma, and Dr. Gurdeep Singh Raina all of whom warmly complimented and applauded the winners for their outstanding achievements.
The Valedictory function also celebrated individual excellence through special honours. The 'Golden Boot Award' in Football was conferred upon Roshan Singh of PGDAV, while the 'Man of the Series Award' in Cricket was awarded to Karamvir, also of PGDAV. The coveted 'AEG Sportsperson of the Year Award' was presented to Leesan Ul Nabi in the male category and Nilu Prasad in the female category. A further highlight of the ceremony was the Poster Release of the 'Fit India' Initiative of the Prime Minister of India, in which Asian Law College, along with its fellow AEG institutions, is proudly and proactively engaged. The function drew to a gracious close with the customary Vote of Thanks.
The 8th Annual Sports Meet, Athleema 2020, was a resounding success in every measure, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories, proud achievements, and enduring inspiration for every student who had the privilege of participating. It stands as yet another proud milestone in Asian Law College's unwavering commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who embody the values of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
